Many Australians will know of veterinarian, author and TV personality Dr Katrina Warren and her chocolate Border Collie, Toby. Toby has been with Dr Katrina for many years and has been a TV star within his own right since he was a puppy. Toby was mostly famous, though, for appearing on the Australian TV show 'Harry's Practice' with vet Dr Harry Cooper during the 1990s.
The news came this week of 14-year-old Toby's passing. :(
RIP beautiful Toby and our sincere condolences to Katrina. We know how devastating it can be to lose a beloved pet, especially one you have had for many, many years. We are happy to know, however, that Toby passed away peacefully in his sleep of natural causes.
I lost my Blue Heeler (aka Australian cattle dog), Jess, in February 1997 when she was only 9 and I still miss her terribly to this day. I also miss the cats we have owned. :(

On an international scale, did you all hear about the dog who was rescued from an ice floe after he floated down a river and into the Baltic Sea near Poland about a week ago?
Various reports have stated the pup floated between 32km to 120km out to sea. He was first spotted on Saturday but local firefighters unfortunately could not rescue him as he floated down a river.
Fortunately, on Monday a research vessel spotted him in the ocean and eventually managed to rescue him. They nicknamed him Baltic. Apparently the poor pup was weak and kept falling into the freezing water as they tried to rescue him before the finally succeeded. Here is a news article with a video of the rescue here:

Here is another article with bit of an update about how Baltic is settling in with the ship's crew. Apparently a few people have come forward claiming to own the dog, but after Baltic failed to recognise the first two people the other two cancelled, according to this news article (link below).
